Characteristics of angels [Malaa’ikah (plural)], [Malak (singular)]
- Angels are noble, pure and supernatural creatures of Allah (SWT).
- They are created from the divine light of Allah.
- They are strong and powerful.
- They can move very fast. They can cover a long distance within a short time.
- They cannot do things without the permission of Allah (SWT); therefore they will never disobey Allah (SWT).
- They are always busy worshipping and obeying the commands of Allah (SWT).
- They have wings and can penetrate any enclosure.
- They do not commit sin.
- They are neither male nor female. They can assume any form with the permission of Allah (SWT).
- They do not procreate or reproduce, like human beings.
- They do not eat, drink or sleep like human beings.
- They guide, protect and pray for the believers, as Allah (SWT) wishes.
- Angels are servants of Allah (SWT). They are not to be worshipped.
- Human beings cannot naturally see angels, except Allah (SWT) permits it.
Significance of believing in angels (Mala’ikah)
Belief in the angels of Allah (SWT):
- helps the believers to always remember and be aware of the presence of Allah (SWT).
- helps the believers to do good things and be closer to Allah (SWT).
- keeps the believers away from sin and Shaytan .
- encourages believers to seek Allah’s forgiveness and stay away from further wrongdoings.
- helps believers to work hard righteously and to think positively.
- gives believers security and protection.
