Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (RA):The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told us something very important and serious about how human life begins and how our future is already known to Allah.
- How a baby is formed:
The Prophet (SAW) said that when each one of us is in our mother’s womb, our body goes through three stages:
- First, for 40 days: We are a drop of fluid (nutfah).
- Next 40 days: We become a clot of blood (alaqah).
- Next 40 days: We become a piece of flesh (mudghah).
That makes a total of 120 days.
- What happens after 120 days:
After 120 days in the womb, an angel comes and does four things:
- Blows the soul into the baby (this is when we become alive with a soul).
- Writes down the person’s rizq (what they will earn or get in life).
- Writes down their life span (how long they will live).
- Writes down their actions and whether they will go to Paradise (Jannah) or Hell (Jahannam).
This shows that Allah knows everything about us even before we are born.
- The Prophet (SAW) warned us:
A person may do good deeds all his life, looking like he is going to Paradise, but near the end of his life, he might do a bad action and die with it — and enter Hellfire.
Another person may do bad things all his life, but at the end, he repents and does good — and goes to Paradise.
This means:
- Don’t be proud of your good deeds. Keep doing good until the end.
- Don’t lose hope if you have done wrong. You can change and Allah will forgive you.
Lessons
- Allah creates us carefully and perfectly.
- Our soul is given after 120 days in the womb.
- Everything about us is written by the angel rizq, lifespan, actions, and our final place (Jannah or Jahannam).
- We must always try to end our life doing good (Husnul Khatimah – a good end).
- Don’t judge others — someone may change for the better.
- Always ask Allah to keep you on the right path until death.
