Suratul-Luqman
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
وَلَقَدۡ ءَاتَيۡنَا لُقۡمَٰنَ ٱلۡحِكۡمَةَ أَنِ ٱشۡكُرۡ لِلَّهِۚ وَمَن يَشۡكُرۡ فَإِنَّمَا يَشۡكُرُ لِنَفۡسِهِۦۖ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٞ ١٢ وَإِذۡ قَالَ لُقۡمَٰنُ لِٱبۡنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَٰبُنَيَّ لَا تُشۡرِكۡ بِٱللَّهِۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرۡكَ لَظُلۡمٌ عَظِيمٞ ١٣ وَوَصَّيۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيۡهِ حَمَلَتۡهُ أُمُّهُۥ وَهۡنًا عَلَىٰ وَهۡنٖ وَفِصَٰلُهُۥ فِي عَامَيۡنِ أَنِ ٱشۡكُرۡ لِي وَلِوَٰلِدَيۡكَ إِلَيَّ ٱلۡمَصِيرُ ١٤ وَإِن جَٰهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُشۡرِكَ بِي مَا لَيۡسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلۡمٞ فَلَا تُطِعۡهُمَاۖ وَصَاحِبۡهُمَا فِي ٱلدُّنۡيَا مَعۡرُوفٗاۖ وَٱتَّبِعۡ سَبِيلَ مَنۡ أَنَابَ إِلَيَّۚ ثُمَّ إِلَيَّ مَرۡجِعُكُمۡ فَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمۡ تَعۡمَلُونَ ١٥ يَٰبُنَيَّ إِنَّهَآ إِن تَكُ مِثۡقَالَ حَبَّةٖ مِّنۡ خَرۡدَلٖ فَتَكُن فِي صَخۡرَةٍ أَوۡ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ أَوۡ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ يَأۡتِ بِهَا ٱللَّهُۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٞ ١٦ يَٰبُنَيَّ أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأۡمُرۡ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِ وَٱنۡهَ عَنِ ٱلۡمُنكَرِ وَٱصۡبِرۡ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَكَۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ عَزۡمِ ٱلۡأُمُورِ ١٧ وَلَا تُصَعِّرۡ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمۡشِ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مَرَحًاۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخۡتَالٖ فَخُورٖ ١٨ وَٱقۡصِدۡ فِي مَشۡيِكَ وَٱغۡضُضۡ مِن صَوۡتِكَۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلۡأَصۡوَٰتِ لَصَوۡتُ ٱلۡحَمِيرِ ١٩
Suratul Luqman is chapter 31 of the Glorious Quran. Verses 12-19 contain the advice of Luqman to his son. Luqman is considered to be wise for guiding his son on the right path in life. Parents should be like Luqman guiding their children on the right path so that they will get the best in this world and the hereafter. Transliteration of Suratul-Luqman
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
12. Wa laqad aatainaa Luqmaanal hikmata anishkur lillaah; wa many yashkur fa innamaa yashkuru linafsihee wa man kafara fa innal laaha Ghaniyyun Hameed
13. Wa iz qaala luqmaanu libnihee wa huwa ya’izuhoo ya bunaiya laa tushrik billaah; innash shirka lazulmun ‘azeem
14. Wa wassainal insaana bi waalidaihi hamalat hu ummuhoo wahnan ‘alaa wahninw wa fisaaluhoo fee ‘aamaini anishkur lee wa liwaalidaika ilaiyal maseer
15. Wa in jaahadaaka ‘alaaa an tushrika bee maa laisa laka bihee ‘ilmun falaa tuti’humaa wa saahib humaa fid dunyaa ma’roofanw wattabi’ sabeela man anaaba ilayy; summa ilaiya marji’ukum fa unabbi’ukum bimaa kuntum ta’maloon
16. Ya bunaiya innahaaa in taku misqaala habbatim min khardalin fatakun fee sakhratin aw fis samaawaati aw fil ardi yaati bi Allah; innal laaha lateefun Khabeer
17. Yaa bunaiya aqimis-Salaata waamur bilma’roofi wanha ‘anil munkari wasbir ‘alaa maaa asaabaka inna zaalika min ‘azmil umoor
18. Wa laa tusa’-‘ir khaddaka linnaasi wa laa tamshi fil ardi maarahan innal laaha laa yuhibbu kulla mukhtaalin fakhoor
19. Waqsid fee mashyika waghdud min sawtik; inna ankaral aswaati lasawtul hameer
Translation of Suratul-Luqman (Qur’an 31 verses 12-19)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
12. ‘And indeed we bestowed (in the past) wisdom upon Luqman’. ‘Give thanks to Allah (SWT)’, and whoever gives thanks (to Allah (SWT)) for (the benefit of) his own soul And whoever is ungrateful (to Allah (SWT)) verily, Allah (SWT) is free from all wants, worthy of all praise.
13. And (remember) when Luqman said to his son when he was advising him: ‘O my son, join not in worshipping others with Allah (SWT), verily, joining others in worship with Allah (SWT) is indeed the highest wrongdoing.
14. And we have enjoined on man (to be good) to his parents. His mother bore him in travail upon travail (weakness), and his weaning was in two years. ‘Therefore give thanks (gratitude or appreciation) to Me and your parent and to me is your final return.’
15. But if they strive to make you join with Me other things in worship which you have no knowledge of, obey them not, yet be in their company in this worldly life with justice and kindness and follow the way of those who turn to me (in repentance) then, in the end, the return of you all is to Me, and I will inform you (the true meaning) of all that you used to do.’
16. O my son!’ (said Luqman), if there be (anything) equal to the weight of a mustard seed and it were hidden in a rock, or (anywhere) in the heavens and on the earth, Allah (SWT) will bring it forth; For Allah (SWT) understands the finest mysteries, and He is well acquainted (with them all).
17. O my son! establish regular prayer, enjoin what is just (good) and forbid what is evil (bad), and bear with patience whatever happens to you. For surely this is firmness (of purpose) in (the conduct of) affairs.
18. ‘And turn not your cheek (for pride) away from men, nor walk in insolent (arrogantly) through the earth, for Allah (SWT) loves not any arrogant boaster.
19. ‘And be moderate in your walking and lower your voice (when talking), verily, the harshest of all voice (undoubtedly) is the braying of the ass.’
